Made with Megaflex Plastic Cement, MEGALUM has a central high density polyethylene core and a double asphalt surface. The NO CRACK COLOR Aluminum coating provides an even longer membrane lifespan and a more reliable waterproofing system. The aluminum coating acts as a reflective UV barrier, reducing heat absorption, protecting the membrane from aging, and providing effective and lasting waterproof protection.


WHERE

The new MEGALUM membrane is especially designed for waterproofing weather-exposed surfaces. A qualitative development arising from users’ needs, MEGALUM was born to replace the traditional NO CRACK aluminum membrane. The NO CRACK COLOR system properties make MEGALUM a more reliable option to deal with the demands of weather-exposed works.

Surfaces waterproofed with this product include: Inaccessible flat or curved roofs, hardly accessible roof terraces, flat roofs in buildings, steep pitched roofs, and metal sheet or fibre cement roofs.


FLEXIBLE ALUMINUM

NO CRACK COLOR is a technological innovation developed by MEGAFLEX. It is made of aluminum composite, which offers a substantial improvement compared to aluminized asphalt membrane systems, providing better user reliability than any other asphalt membranes known so far.

The innovative NO CRACK COLOR provides aluminized membranes with new unthought-of properties, including increased mechanical resistance to tension, torsion, bending, and punching, both during the installation process and over the membrane lifespan


INSTALLATION (IRAM GUIDELINE #12627)

TO ENSURE PROPER WATERPROOFING, IT IS ESSENTIAL TO FOLLOW THE FOLLOWING INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

SURFACE PREPARATION:

The application surface must be dry, clean, firm, smooth, and properly graded, and it should have the necessary drains to evacuate water.

PRIMING:

Before installing the membrane, prime the surface in order to improve the membrane bonding to the substrate. For that purpose, use MEGAFLEX ASPHALT PRIMER (solvent-based), MEGAFLEX ASPHALT EMULSION (aqueous-based), or OXIDIZED ASPHALT IN BLOCKS (hot application), depending on the characteristics of the work. Prime the whole surface area evenly, including protruding elements (chimneys, ventilation elements, etc.), drains and flash sheets. Wait until the primer is completely dry and check that the surface is perfectly clean before installing the membrane.

INSTALLATION:

Successively place the rolls on one another, from the bottom to the top of the surface (starting from the drains, if possible), perpendicularly to the slope. Start by provisionally laying down the roll, i.e. extending it completely over the roofing in order to verify its position on the affected area, and wind it back again so as to begin fixing it down.

ADHESION:

Heat the anti-adherent side of the welding membrane with a torch, completely melting the anti-adherent layer and superficially melting the asphalt, and then adhere it to the substrate by applying a light pressure.

LAP JOINT:

Place the following sheets overlapping on one another, in an ascending fashion, i.e., following the slope direction, and making sure the lap joint is at least 8 cm (3.2”) longitudinally. At the rolls ends, the overlap should be 15 cm (6”). Megaflex membranes have a welding strip to facilitate lap joints.

FLASHING:

Finally, install the flashing on the perimeter walls. Use a double membrane layer for joints between floor and wall so as to yield a rounded surface finishing.

FINISH:

Once all the rolls are in place, coat the exuded areas with asphalt-based MEGAFLEX ALUMINIZED PAINT so as to protect the asphalt that became exposed after welding and to provide a proper aesthetic finish.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Store the rolls in covered areas, protected from rain and sunshine, at temperatures neither below 5 °C nor higher than 35 °C. Keep stored until use.

Stow the rolls in a pyramid not higher than five rows. It is advisable to let the products rest at the installation site for at least 2 hours, for them to attain the desired temperature and humidity balance before installation.

At room temperatures near 5 °C, special care should be taken when laying the product. Unroll slowly and gently so as to avoid scratches, cracks or other damages.

Installation of the membrane is not recommended when room temperature is below 5 ºC (41 ºF).

Do not work under rainy conditions nor resume installation until the surface is completely dry.

Keep carbon dioxide or dry chemical extinguishers at hand in the application site to put off any liable fire sites during installation.
